Anna and the French Kiss: book trailer + book review

Tuesday, March 20, 2012 0 Comments

Book Trailer:

After making my very first book trailer through Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty, I was inspired to do another.  Here's my attempt for Stephanie Perkin's Anna and the French Kiss.

*Disclaimer:
Anna is supposed to be a bit taller than St. Clair and St. Clair's supposed to have dark brown hair.

Review:

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris - until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.

As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near-misses end with the French kiss Anna - and readers - have long awaited? -goodreads summary

Anna and the French Kiss perfectly captures that moment when people start off as close friendscompletely comfortable with each otherand then suddenly, everything shifts. There's that quiet, unexpected sense of awkwardness when feelings starte to change.

What I loved most is how authentic the story feels. I could just imagine it happening. It's not about a flawed girl falling in love with a perfect guy thing. It's about a not-so-perfect girl falling in love with a not-so-perfect guy as well. There's a gradual development in their relationship, and in a way that's so naturalnd easy to relate to. Plus, Anna and Etienne aren't the only one who shinestheir friends are just as memorable.  I loved grouptheir friendship. (Can I be a part of them? =))

Anna's voice is another highlight. The way she tells the story feels so personal and engagingI was hooked. I liked it.

And then there's Paris. The book takes you on a journeyfrom the theaters to Notre Dame to Point Zero. You get the feeling that you're alongside Anna, discovering Paris for the first time. (I want to go visit and make a wish at Point Zero.)

Plus, plus, plus... ETIENNE! St. Clair may not be the perfect YA guy you might read but... Even though he is shorter than Anna, afraid of heights and bites his nails, Etienne St. Clair is an ultimate crushworthy.

I absolutely-freakingly love this novel. It made me giddy in the best way. I love Anna. I love Etienne. I love all the characters. I loved every moment of it

5 stars no doubt. The story is really charming. Go read it. I've read the book three times already, and I for sure will read it again.

Since the official cover is not so good for me, here are some great fan-made covers for the book:

Book Trailer - My First Attempt

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 0 Comments

Since seeing Gayle Foreman’s If I Stay and Where She Went book trailers, I started looking for other book trailers over at youtube.   There were actually a lot of fan-made book trailers.  Some of which are really good. So, I was inspired to create my own. Here’s my attempt for The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han.

Demi Lovato as Belly, Joe Jonas as Conrad, and Nick Jonas as Jeremiah.

My oh-so-The-Voice-inspired October Playlist

Friday, October 21, 2011 0 Comments

A weekend with nothing to do got me to watch The Voice marathon over at AXN. Yeah! The show finished months ago and I’m way late. Ha! This then led to my October Dia obsession (Dia’s one of my favorites on the show). Afterward, I started looking over the internet about Dia and found out she has a band with her sister called Meg & Dia. Later on, I found myself downloading her and her band's songs.

Here are some of my favorites which kept playing on my music player:

Some info about Dia Frampton and her band:

Dia is a singer-songwriter from St. George, Utah. She’s half Korean and half-Dutch. Her career aspiration has been to be a voice-over actress, but her considerable singing talents may just steer her elsewhere. A life-long bookworm, Dia also writes novels and children's books.

Dia, together with her sister Meg were the founders of the band Meg & Dia which was formed in 2004.  The band is now a five-piece act with additional members Nicholas Price, Jonathan Snyder, and Carlo Gimenez. The band released its first album, Our Home Is Gone, in 2005. At the time, the band consisted of just the two Frampton sisters, and the album's tracks were mostly acoustic songs. Meg played guitar and provided back-up vocals while Dia sang. A year later, they released their second album, Something Real. In 2009 the band released Here, Here and Here. 2011 came their fourth album Cocoon.
