Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Bought Because...

A lot has been happening lately. And yes, I've been at home for quite a while now due to quarantine. I've been working from home and all that which was quite hard and sometimes stressful. So I thought since I've been trying to post in my blog lately, why not return to participating in Top Ten Tuesday? It's a fun activity and may relieve some of the stress I've been feeling.

These are the top ten (actually 12. haha.) books I bought because...

1. They have simple yet pretty covers

I actually haven't read the first two which I bought on a book sale last year. Hoping to read soon.

2. I love music

Aside from reading, I do love music. So, when you combine the two? Perfect!

3. A lot of book bloggers recommended it

During those times when I was very much active in the book blogging community, a lot of fellow readers suggested these and kept popping on lists. And yes, I did not regret picking up these two. They are two of my all-time favorites.

4. I really loved the author's previous books

If I Stay and Where She Went are probably included in my all-time favorite list so I decided to read Just One Day (via e-book first) and I fell in love, so I had to buy the paperback copy. The book ended on a cliffhanger which made me anticipate the second installment. I pre-ordered from across the other side of the world complete with autograph from the author. I just had to.

5. I love me some mystery/thriller/crime fiction every once in a while

A Faint Cold Fear was my first Karin Slaughter book and what made me a fan. The Cop Town is the latest one I bought. If you are into the genre, don't miss out on this great author - she got "stories that get under your skin."

It was nice to be back. Stay Safe fellow readers!

A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay

When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

I love you, Gayle Forman. I love you for writing books such as Just One Day: books that stain.

I was so excited to read this new book by Gayle Forman and I will tell you now, it did not disappoint. I LOOOVED IT!  I never thought I’d like the story this much when I started reading it but when I read the last few words, the story totally stayed with me. I felt it.

The emotions: happiness, giddiness, sadness, longing, hopefulness… The exciting, the heartbreaking, the Awww…, the OMG!,  the Shocks! moments.

The theme... discovering yourself and finding true love. Something we all can totally relate to. Something that always comes up in most YA novels. But Allyson's journey is definitely captivating and unforgettable.

The characters…  Oh, Allyson (aka Lulu) and Willem. I love, love, love the two of them. The secondary characters also added a lot of layers to the story. Melanie, Dee, The roommates, The parents, The Ausies, Wren, all of them.

The setting… Paris! How romantic can this get? Forman showed a different side of Paris that I have not read before. This is just the place.

The ending… Why oh why, Gayle Forman, did you have to end it the way it ended? Such a cliffhanger. Please release Just One Year very soon. I can’t wait.

...

Meeting someone in a foreign country, joining him on a journey, touring Paris together for a day, seeing a whole new side of yourself and falling in love... ALL IN JUST ONE DAY. This is the story… and a whole lot more. If you loved If I Stay and Where She Went, you’ll definitely love this one.
